Items to Bring When Returning a Leased Car

When your lease is up – or if you’re returning a leased car early – the first thing you should do is gather some necessary materials. While the dealership can find some of the items for you if you forget or lose them, it’s best if you can bring as many as you can find yourself. Here’s what you should bring with you to the dealership:

• Vehicle inspection report
• Repair receipts
• Keys/spare keys
• Owner’s manual
• Maintenance records

Once you have the materials above, all you have to do to return your vehicle is bring it to our dealership! Bring your car to Carlock Honda, and you can expect the rest of the return process to go something like this:

1. Drop your car off at our dealership.
2. We’ll check your car for any damage, as well as inspect its overall quality, odometer, and more.
3. Be aware that any visible wear and tear, damage, or extra miles on the odometer are all subject to penalty fees as stated in your lease agreement.
4. Once our inspection is complete, we’ll give you a few end-of-lease options: walk away, upgrade to a newer model, or buy out your current vehicle. If you walk away, you’re free to choose from our inventory of new and pre-owned vehicles for a new car.

Can You Return a Leased Car Early?

If your lease isn’t up yet but you still want to return a leased car early, you should be able to – just check with your specific lending company for the details. You’ll still be responsible for paying off the owed amount (this includes any fees incurred over the course of your lease term). However, you won’t be responsible for monthly lease payments, and you have the same end-of-lease options – such as upgrading to a newer lease model – as if you returned your car on schedule.
